Prince Edward Island

I forgot to let you know I would be away on vacation for a couple of weeks. My husband, our kids, and I, had the most wonderful family vacation on Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada. My father, stepmom, sister, brother-in-law, niece, and nephew, made the trip from Newfoundland to PEI. My stepsister also made the trip from New Brunswick to spend a few days with us. I hadn’t seen any of them for two and a half years, and am very thankful we were able to have so much quality family time.

The 12.9km (8 mile) Confederation Bridge is an engineering marvel. We couldn’t believe how long it was.

By the time we arrived it was 5:30pm. After checking in to White Sands Cottages we found a place to eat, picked up a few groceries, and relaxed at the cottage. On our second day we drove twenty minutes to Charlottetown, then back to the cottage for a long walk along a path close to Cavendish beach, and a dip in the cottage pool. After supper we went to Cavendish beach for a swim.

We spent the entire third day at Shining Waters waterpark.

My stepsister came from New Brunswick to spend a few days with us. She arrived just before supper. After a quick dip in the pool, we went to The Beach House restaurant, where I enjoyed a delicious PEI mussels and lobster chowder. We then took another scenic drive to North Rustico Beach. It’s not as sandy like Cavendish, but there were lots of little sea critters to look at.

Brackley Beach was our adventure on our fourth day. This was our favourite beach we visited on PEI. It’s just as nice as Cavendish, but less crowded.

My sister and her family, my Dad and Stepmom arrived just before supper. We stuffed our faces with unlimited Mussels, seafood chowder, scallops, and lobster. YUMMO!

Day Five we all went to Sandspit amusement park. Bumper boats, rides, roller coasters, and Go Karts. After supper we said goodbye to my stepsis who was heading back to New Brunswick, and went back to Sandspit for Mini Putt.

On day six we all went to Cavendish Beach. It was incredibly hot. (Don’t forget to put sunblock on your feet!) We then took a little drive to the Anne of Green Gables Museum. Anne of Green Gables is a novel set in PEI written by Lucy Maud Montgomery in 1908.

On our seventh day we bought some handmade jams and tea at PEI Preserves, and toured the Gardens of Hope. After a relaxing afternoon at the cottage pool, we had delicious fish and chips, and a laid-back evening by the fire.

Our eighth day was our last. We packed up, said tearful goodbyes, and started our two day road trip back to Ontario. I leave you with a photo of the view from our hotel room (Best Western Plus) in Rivière-Du-Loup, Quebec.

While on our trip I finished Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and started Everything’s Eventual by Stephen King. More book reviews coming soon 🙂
