2019 End of Year Reading Survey

Here’s a Reading Survey for 2019. Inspired by BooksandLaLa.

How many books did you read in 2019?

I haven’t gone through my notes to double-check, according to Goodreads I read 88 books, which is my best reading year since Grade 6.

Most-Read Genre

Fantasy – I read 23 Fantasy books this year. Mystery/Thriller came in second. and ROMANCE came in third! WHAT! Romance! Interesting…and here I thought I didn’t like romance books.

Favourite Book of the Year

Ohh…this was a gooood reading year. Hmmm…let’s see…

My first 5-star read this year was The Last Time I Lied by Riley Sager, but it’s not my fav book of the year. Little Darlings by Melanie Golding is a contender for #1…As is Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Saenz…but…the number ONE position has to go to:

When the Moon Was Ours by Anna-Marie McLemore

Least Favourite Book of the Year

A Matter of Latitude by Isobel Blackthorn. It was the first book I DNF this year. Really did not like this one at all.

Most Disappointing Book of the Year

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi. Ugh…I’m so sorry for the readers who loved this…it just wasn’t for me. However, I’m going to continue the series and give the next book a chance.

Unexpected Book I Loved

I almost didn’t read the ARC for Slow Drip by Gary Polisano because the cover looked corny, and the info on Goodreads didn’t look professional, so I was worried that it was a self-published, uncorrected, full of errors kind of ARC…but it was an awesome Mystery/Thriller/Suspense and I would read more by Polisano for sure.

Shortest Book I Read This Year

I’m not sure if it counts as a book or if it’s a short story: Destroy Me (Shatter Me #1.5) by Tahereh Mafi. The e-book was 109 pages.

Longest Book I Read in 2019

The Priory of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon 848 pages

Biggest Reading Accomplishment

For the book I consider to be my biggest accomplishment this year I choose Salem’s Lot by Stephen King because I had been meaning to read it for a VERY, very, very, very long time, so it felt amazing to actually read it (and love it). 5 Stars!

Under-hyped Books

Here are some books I read this year that I loved and I think they deserve more attention!
Kid’s Books:
The Eternals by James Kirschenheuter
Space Dragons by Robin Bennett

Adult Books:
How I Broke Up With My Colon by Nick Seluk (I know it sounds weird but this is a really quirky, weird, funny graphic novel)
Slow Drip by Gary Polisano
Your Life is Mine by Nathan Ripley
The Dead Girls Club by Damien Angelica Walters
Crashing the A-List by Summer Heacock

A New Favourite Author

Anna-Marie McLemore!!!

When the Moon Was Ours was life-changing. As soon as I finished it, I bought The Weight of Feathers. I truly must read everything McLemore writes – a new book is coming January 14, Dark and Deepest Red.
