Book Review – One Of Us Is Next

The sequel for One Of Us Is Lying came out in January and I was able to get my hands on a copy from the library. When I first saw that a YA Mystery/Thriller had a sequel I thought…Why? Is this going to work? Well, I’m happy to say, it did! If you haven’t read the first book I recommend skipping this review due to spoilers.

My Review

› One Of Us Is Next takes place from February 17 to April 1st. The “Bayview Four” have tried to move on with their lives. Bronwyn is at Yale, Cooper is playing College baseball, Addy is working at a local café and Nate is taking community college classes. This is an exciting Mystery/Thriller told from multiple perspectives: Bronwyn’s younger sister Maeve, the new-girl-in-town Phoebe, and Maeve’s ex-boyfriend Knox.

› The students of Bayview High are sucked into a deadly game of Truth or Dare. Maeve stumbles across a Reddit forum titled “Vengeance is Mine” where Bayview2020 and Darkestmind talk about the “Bayview Four” and getting revenge. Maeve is trying to figure out who’s behind the game and worried that her leukemia is back.

› Phoebe has a younger brother named Owen and an older sister named Emma. Phoebe’s mother is the wedding planner for Addy’s sister, Ashton. Phoebe’s father died three years ago and they moved to town a year ago. She’s teamed up with Knox and Maeve to try and figure out who’s behind the Truth or Dare game and she’s dealing with her older sister’s substance abuse.

› Knox works with Ashton’s fiance, Eli. He and Maeve figured out they weren’t meant to be in a romantic relationship, but they make great bestfriends.

“True, Jellyfish. He did get caught. But his inspiration lives on in Bayview. And he’d f**k**g love the game I’m playing right now. – Darkestmind”

› Maeve and Phoebe feel like the same person and I kept getting them mixed up. Some of the plot points are a little far-fetched, however, the big twist surprised me for sure. I did not want to put this book down! I wanted more of Bronwyn and Nate ♥♥♥.

› Final Thoughts
• One Of Us Is Next is a fast-paced page-turner with a big twist. I don’t think you’ll figure out who’s behind the deadly game of Truth or Dare. ★★★
