Today Tonight Tomorrow by Rachel Lynn Solomon

Happy Tuesday! I’m here with a book review for my first read of 2021 (yup I’m posting this four months into the year) Today Tonight Tomorrow. This came in the Once Upon A Book Club book box that my husband got me for Christmas. It came with gifts to open at specific pages. It was an awesome experience with super cute gifts.

They have a Bridgerton Box Pre-Order!
“This singular box will contain the first three novels in the Bridgerton series (The Duke and I, The Viscount Who Loved Me, and An Offer From a Gentleman) each featuring exclusive artwork printed directly onto the hardcover edition, deckled edges, and custom end papers. The author, Julia Quinn, will be signing the first book, The Duke and I especially for this box. 2-3 wrapped gifts will be paired with each book to bring the novels to life even further. Boxes are valued at $225 and WILL SHIP IN LATE JUNE.”

Title: Today Tonight Tomorrow

Author: Rachel Lynn Solomon

Publication Date: July 2020

Publisher: Simon Pulse

Suggested Reader Age: It’s marketed as 12+, but I would put it at 16+. I really wish books had a better rating system. There is swearing, sex, and underage drug use.

Genre: YA Contemporary Romance, High School Competition, Jewish

Synopsis

“It’s the last day of senior year. Rowan Roth and Neil McNair have been bitter rivals for all of high school, clashing on test scores, student council elections, and even gym class pull-up contests. While Rowan, who secretly wants to write romance novels, is anxious about the future, she’d love to beat her infuriating nemesis one last time…

When Neil is named valedictorian, Rowan has only one chance at victory: Howl, a senior class game that takes them all over Seattle, a farewell tour of the city she loves. But after learning a group of seniors is out to get them, she and Neil reluctantly decide to team up until they’re the last players left—and then they’ll destroy each other.”

My Review

Today Tonight Tomorrow takes place in Seattle on Rowan’s the last day of high school. Her parents are an author/illustrator team; mom is Russian and dad is Mexican. I’m not Jewish so I can’t say if the rep is accurate, but I loved hearing all about their traditions and culture. Rowan’s nemesis through high school is Neil McNair AKA “McNightmare” as Rowan calls him. They have always tried to beat each other academically and Rowan is heart-broken when Neil is chosen as valedictorian. Their high school has a tradition of a scavenger hunt all over Seattle and in a strange turn of events Rowan ends up teaming up with Neil. Can they make it through today, tonight, and tomorrow to without tearing each other’s eyeballs out?

I use the CAWPILE method to rate books.
0-3 Really bad
4-6 Mediocre
7-9 Really good
10 Outstanding

Characters: 7
Rowan is annoying, Neil is swoony. Can we talk about Mercedes who’s in an all-female Van Halen cover band? I would definitely read a book with her as the main character.

Atmosphere: 10
A scavenger hunt all over Seattle was a fantastic way to feel like you travel along with the characters all over the city learning about all the coolest places.

Writing Style: 7
Repetitive. MANY social issues raised, which I typically love, but some worked with the plot, some didn’t.

Plot: 7
Sluggish in parts.

Intrigue: 10
Did I want to keep reading? Hell YES.

Logic: 6 I’m not sure if this falls under logic or plot, but there is underage drug use (that was not necessary to the plot) and I simply do not agree with promoting drug use in teens. It would have been better if the characters were in college/university rather than high school.

Enjoyment: Overall experience 8

Average 7.9

1.1-2.2 = ★
2.3-4.5 = ★★
4.6-6.9 = ★★★
7-8.9 = ★★★★
9-10 = ★★★★★

My Rating ★★★★

› Final Thoughts
Today Tonight Tomorrow is a sweet, fun enemies-to-lovers story that reminded me of Hold Me by Courtney Milan (that one is not YA), and Fake It Till You Break It by Jenn P. Nguyen (YA 5 star for me).
