My Review

This is the story of Wolfgang Mozart’s sister, Maria Anna “Nannerl” Mozart. It begins in 1759, Salzburg, Austria. Eight-year-old Nannerl is afraid of being forgotten. One evening, the princeling, Hyacinth, from the Kingdom of Back visits Nannerl and offers to give her everything she wants – but there will be a cost. The book follows Nannerl through many years as she struggles with accepting Hyacinth’s offer, finding herself, or letting her brother stay in the spotlight.

Was Nannerl Mozart the real talent in the family?

› Final Thoughts
Kingdom of Back is a quick, interesting read about the history of Mozart’s family. I didn’t know his sister was also a talented pianist and I loved all the historical pieces of this story. However, I didn’t enjoy the magical parts with Hyacinth and the Kingdom. It felt longer than it needed to be. I think this could have made a fantastic short story.
