About The Author

Allie Reynolds

“Born and raised in the UK, Allie moved to Queensland Australia in 2004. She lives by the beach with her two young boys and a cat who thinks he’s a dog.

Many years ago she competed at snowboard halfpipe. These days she sticks to surfing – water doesn’t hurt as much as ice when you fall on it.

She’s a massive reader. Her first ever job was a Saturday job in a bookstore, at age 14. She’s read and enjoyed pretty much every genre there is, but these days she mostly prefers thrillers, especially psychological thrillers with interesting settings. She also loves romance, crime, sports fiction, high concept stories with interesting premises, and non-fiction including sports biographies and self-help.” https://www.goodreads.com/author/show/19282152.Allie_Reynolds

My Review

› Thirty-three-year-old Milla arrived at Le Rocher ten years after Saskia went missing the morning of the snowboard competition. Brent, Heather, Dale, and Saskia’s brother Curtis have also returned to the deserted mountaintop resort in the French Alps. Soon after arriving their cell phones disappear. The lift stops working. The power flickers. The five of them came for a reunion, not knowing who organized the weekend. Now, they are stuck, with a storm on the way. Over the weekend they will learn more about each other than they did during an entire winter ten years ago when they were here training for a snowboarding competition. Who planned this weekend? What really happened to Saskia? Who will survive?

10 Outstanding

Characters: 10
The characters are well developed, with distinct personalities, strengths, flaws.

Atmosphere: 10
The setting, descriptions, world-building, and mood are all perfection.

› Writing Style: 8
I enjoyed the writing despite the fact that I normally dislike first-person. Some of the dialogue was really clunky and unrealistic. Some repetition.

› Plot: 8
The beginning is a bit of a slow-burn, the middle had some strange pacing a few times, but the ending – WOW. This is a PAGE TURNER for sure.

› Intrigue: 10
I didn’t want to put it down!

› Logic: 9
A couple of elements that I thought didn’t fit but didn’t deter me from enjoying the story.

› Enjoyment: 9

Average 9.1

1.1-2.2 = ★
2.3-4.5 = ★★
4.6-6.9 = ★★★
7-8.9 = ★★★★
9-10 = ★★★★★

My Rating ★★★★★

› Final Thoughts
• Shiver is one of my favourite mystery thrillers I’ve ever read. I grew up in Labrador with snow, woods, and a ski hill just 5 minutes away from my house. I attempted to ski and snowboard many times, and although I sucked at it, I always had a good time. Reading about snowboarding was so much fun. Shiver is a sexy, dramatic, suspenseful story. A great read for this winter!
