Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings

Whadda ya at book lovers! After giving A Brush With Love four stars, I jumped at the chance to request an arc for Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake by Mazey Eddings. This book is set in the same world as A Brush With Love and it is nice knowing the backstory for Harper and Dan, but you don’t need to read ABWL before LBBM.

“For anyone who’s been told they’re too loud. Too emotional. Too much. You are the perfect amount of enough.” – Mazey Eddings

About The Author

“Mazey Eddings is a neurodiverse author, dentist, and (most importantly) stage mom to her cats, Yaya and Zadie. She can most often be found reading romance novels under her weighted blanket and asking her boyfriend to bring her snacks. Sheโ€™s made it her personal mission in life to destigmatize mental health issues and write love stories for every brain. With roots in Ohio and Philadelphia, she now calls North Carolina home.ย  Mazey is represented by Courtney Miller-Callihan atย Handspun Literaryย .”

The pictures of her cats on her website are just plain ADORABLE!

My Review

โ€บ Lizzie Blake loves Philadelphia. She’s a talented baker and has ADHD which makes her struggle with organization skills, remembering important things or keeping track of time. She seeks sensory input, and stimulation and is impulsive. She also has Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria which is a part of having ADHD. “People who have RSD donโ€™t handle rejection well. They get very upset if they think someone has shunned or criticized them, even if thatโ€™s not the case. Up to 99% ofย teensย and adults with ADHD are more sensitive than usual to rejection. And nearly 1 in 3 say it’s the hardest part ofย living with ADHD.” (https://www.webmd.com/add-adhd/rejection-sensitive-dysphoria)

โ€บ My husband and son have ADHD and I’m an Educational Assistant. A neurodiverse person in a love story warms my heart to no end.

โ€บ Lizzie has an awesome roommate named Indira. They’ve been roommates forever and I love how Indira understands Lizzie and is incredibly patient. I suppose it helps that she’s doing her psychiatric residency so she truly understands Lizzie’s unique and creative brain.

โ€บ Lizzie is not very close with her brother, Ryan AKA “the golden child”. Her parents always admired Ryan’s successes while they made Lizzie feel horrible about herself.

โ€บ Lizzie has a strong sex drive, sticking with one-night stands because she has a fear of rejection. While waiting for her date at the bar she meets Rake. Tall with broad shoulders, and did I mention Australian?

โ€บ Rake is patient, loyal, and smart. He was burned in the past and has been single for two years so he figures he’s probably due for a fling. The fling turns into more than a fling when Lizzie finds out she’s pregnant. Rake and Lizzie get an apartment together, planning to have a non-romantic co-parenting relationship, however, the sexual chemistry makes that very difficult.

โ€บ Rake’s response to Thu 36% into the story made me tear up. I love Rake so much. He has his flaws, but he accepts Lizzie and loves her not despite her ADHD but because of it. โ™ฅ

โ€บ In the acknowledgments Mazey Eddings shares that she has ADHD and autism and wanted to write a story about someone like her finding love.

“Every brain is beautiful, and they all deserve love exactly as they are.” – Mazey Eddings

โ€บ Final Thoughts
โ€ข Lizzie Blake’s Best Mistake is a sexy, fun read with an important narrative about neurodiversity, self-love, forgiveness, and mental health. It reminded me of The Sizzle Paradox by Lily Menon. I’m definitely looking forward to reading Eddings next book about Lizzie’s roommate Indira which is coming in 2023.

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the complimentary copy in exchange for my honest review.
